罗马之光主演：Kirk Douglas/Cyd Charisse/Edward G. Robinson/Daliah Lavi,
安德鲁斯（柯克·道格拉斯 Kirk Douglas 饰）曾经是名噪一时的电影明星，但高涨的人气在带来了财富和利益的同时，也给安德鲁斯的精神带来了巨大的压力，久而久之，他被诊断患上了抑郁症，必须息影休养。在接受治疗的这段时间里，安德鲁斯无时不刻的怀念着舞台上的种种，终于，某一日，他收到了老友克罗格（爱德华·罗宾逊 Edward G. Robinson 饰）发来的电报，邀请他前往罗马，出演由他导演的影片的男主角一角。兴奋的安德鲁斯立刻就将这个企划提上了行程。 然而，当安德鲁斯抵达了罗马后才被告知，他的男主角身份被撤换了，在和克罗格一通大发雷霆之后，安德鲁才知道原来剧组的处境也很困难。克罗格百般劝说终于说服了安德鲁斯留下来替男主角配音。
