颇使人意外的是，《幸福家园》仅筹备已花足了三年时间，尤其特殊的是，从剧本阶段，已有三个工作组同时工作，这也就是罗伯特·雷所说的截然相反于好莱坞工业体系的电影制片形式。与剧本工作组同时展开工作的，还有演员工作组，类似于表演工作坊性质。使得他们从容不迫地面对镜头，留下在角色中的自己。

可以看出来导演之前一直指导话剧，这部电影的画面布置都很精致，人物的位置也都很有讲究，还有台词，很有喜剧效果。不过苏格兰口语的英语还真是很难听懂。
