It has been nearly 30 years. How time flies! Yet the scent of roses still linger in my memory.
Unlike most people in here, I watched the TV series in early 1980s when I was a little girl. It was like some lazy summer afternoons and I came across this on TV. I only got the chance to watch a few episodes that is to say I don't have any idea about the beginning or ending.
Interestingly I don't remember at all which episodes I watched and it has been long buried in my memory since the day before name of this series popped up on screen when I was searching for something else on Youku.
You know how strange people are (especially women). At that time, I felt like I was thrown into a time machine and shipped back to summer nights in 1980s when a little girl's head was filled with "roses" "duet" "french" "ball" and got so sad when she could not find any more episodes on TV due to some reason I can't remember now.
Re-watching the TV series today gave me mixed feelings. First, this is definitely for girls. I don' t think my 5 year old boy will like it (he like tales of two cities instead). And seeing scenes and plotline wrapped and developed in such a straightforward way is quite amusing. It is like watching Taiwan romance TV series. But freedom and love are way too powerful to throw all these criticism away. Hence I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad that I still love the series.
Roses smell sweet in any names. Roses of Versailles stands out in any time.
